Brothers Grimm’s Classics

The Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, were German academics, linguists, and folklorists best known for their collection of fairy tales. Born in the late 18th century, the brothers were initially focused on studying Germanic culture and language, but they gained worldwide fame for compiling and preserving traditional German folktales. Their first collection, Grimm’s Fairy Tales (1812), aimed to capture the oral storytelling traditions of their homeland, which were at risk of being lost. Over the years, the Grimms published several editions of their fairy tales, refining them for a more general audience. Their stories have since become classics, influencing the world of literature, film, and pop culture.

The fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm, such as Cinderella, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and Rapunzel, have become some of the most well-known and retold stories in the world. What made their tales unique was their blend of magic, adventure, and moral lessons, often with darker and more intense themes than the versions we know today. The Grimms stayed true to the sometimes harsh realities of life that these folk stories conveyed.
